A practical introduction to neurodiversity for educators, covering ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other forms of neurodivergence, with practical strategies for creating more inclusive and supportive classrooms.
This educator-focused course introduces the foundations of neurodiversity and explores practical ways to create more inclusive, supportive, and responsive classrooms.
Drawing on professional expertise and lived experience, the course explores neurodivergence including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other neurodivergent experiences. Participants will develop a better understanding of areas such as executive functioning, sensory processing, emotional regulation, working memory, time awareness, and task initiation, and how these can influence a learner’s experience in the classroom.
The course focuses on translating understanding into practice. Educators will explore practical strategies such as creating predictable routines, using visual supports, breaking tasks into manageable steps, incorporating learners’ interests, providing movement breaks, supporting executive functioning, and creating emotionally safe learning environments.
By the end of this course, educators will be able to:

Recognise how differences in learning, communication, sensory processing, and executive functioning can affect classroom experiences.
Look beyond behaviour to understand the needs that may be communicating through it.
