Lesson 9 of 13 · 1:50
Lesson Description
The way students are responded to at school can have a significant impact on their learning, self-esteem, and emotional well-being. In this lesson, you'll explore common responses that neurodivergent students may experience in school environments and consider how seemingly routine or well-intentioned responses can unintentionally create barriers to participation and belonging.
The lesson highlights experiences such as peer bullying, being singled out by teachers, lack of academic support, discrimination and stigma, social isolation, and blaming or harsh language. It encourages educators to reflect on how their responses and classroom practices can either support or hinder a student's sense of safety, confidence, and inclusion.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
Recognize common responses that may negatively affect neurodivergent students.
Understand how school experiences can influence learning and emotional well-being.
Reflect on the impact of labelling, public correction, exclusion, and lack of appropriate support.
Identify the importance of creating respectful, supportive, and inclusive classroom interactions.
