Lesson 10 of 13 · 3:16
Children may not always have the words or confidence to express what they are feeling. Their emotional needs may instead appear through changes in behaviour, communication, participation, or interactions with others.
In this lesson, you'll explore how educators can become more attentive to these unspoken cues and respond with sensitivity and understanding. The session encourages teachers to look beyond observable behaviour, consider what a child may be experiencing, and create opportunities for students to feel heard, supported, and emotionally safe.
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
Recognize signs that may indicate a student's unspoken emotional needs.
Look beyond behaviour to consider the experiences or emotions underlying it.
Respond to students with greater empathy and sensitivity.
Create a classroom environment where students feel safe to express their needs and seek support.
